FURTHER to my item about the lavish refurbishment of his grace- and-favour home, I have more news of the housing arrangements of the new Archbishop of York. While the decorators are working on Bishopthorpe Palace, the cash-strapped Church of England is buying the Rt Rev Dr John Sentamu a Pounds 500,000 temporary six-bedroom home just across the road. They plan to sell it when the Archbishop moves into his spruced up palace next year.
Church Commissioners, who - as I disclosed - were at one time considering selling the Palace, say the new purchase represents a 'responsible investment'.See the full content of this document
