IF THERE'S one thing Sir John Mortimer likes, it's his daily glass of champers. And if there's one thing he hates, it's lifts. So pity the dilemma faced by the Rumpole creator at a recent performance at the Prince of Wales Theatre in the West End, when he had to brave the one to get to the other.
Says a friend: 'Ever since John's been in a wheelchair, he's developed a phobia of lifts, as he's terrified he'll get trapped.'
