SHOULD the mother who drowned her four-year-old cerebral palsy daughter have been jailed for 15 years? No.
Eleven years ago, Link magazine in Cornwall published a letter from local care charities: 'How many more carers and those being cared for are going to become prematurely ill and die before Cornwall social services gets its statutory act together?' A year after that letter was published, my wife died prematurely from extreme anxiety and stress, aged just 54. For 25 years she, with myself as co-carer, had looked after our son, who had severe cerebral palsy, and he survived until the age of 31 in 2004 (he hadn't been expected to reach the age of three), no thanks to social services. If Joanna Hill received the same level of assistance from social services and the NHS as we received in 31 years, then no wonder 'something terrible happened'.See the full content of this document
