AER LINGUS yesterday celebrated half a century of air travel, marking the dawn of the airline's flagship transatlantic service in 1958.

At the same time as the airline's very first transatlantic air liner took flight some 50 years ago, Jerry Lee Lewis' big hit 'Great Balls of Fire' rang out across the airwaves.
