DRUG maker Shire Pharmaceuticals struck back against government plans to save money by denying treatment to thousands of Alzheimer's sufferers.

The UK's National Institute for Clinical Excellence, which makes healthcare recommendations to the NHS, said Alzheimer's drugs including Shire's Reminyl were too expensive at around Pounds 2.50 a day.
