Summary

FORMER ambassador to Washington Sir Christopher Meyer, whose indiscreet memoir DC Confidential infuriated the Government, has assisted the BBC with a new six-part drama, The State Within, about disputes between Downing Street and the White House. Thanks to him, the production team obtained access to the White House and the British ambassador's Lutyens residence. One wonders if access would have been granted so readily if the theme was the cosiness between the Bush and Blair regimes. Blair's staff, incidentally, were so bewitched by The West Wing Channel 4's import about U.S. politics that they invited one of its stars, John Spencer, who has since died, for a tour of Downing Street.

FORMER nurse Abi Titmuss, 29, pictured, famous as the exgirlfriend of disgraced TV presenter John Leslie, and for taking her clothes off on TV and men's magazines, is to star as prostitute Angie in a new production of Arthur Miller's play Two-Way Mirror. Director Mike Miller says: 'Abi was born to play the part of Angie.' Perhaps so. Angie suffers from multiple personality disorder.
