A NEW device is being used by British doctors to slash the time it takes to diagnose a common cause of wrist pain. The invention, called Mediracer, takes just five minutes to identify a condition called carpal tunnel syndrome, which affects up to one in 12 people, predominantly women. Sufferers develop numbness, tingling and pain in the thumb and fingers as a result of pressure on the median nerve, which goes from the wrist to the hand.
Nerve conduction tests are normally carried out to diagnose the problem. But waiting times can be up to two years, due to a shortage of specialists to operate bulky testing equipment.See the full content of this document
