ALBERTO AQUILANI blamed Roma's medical set-up for his fitness problems yesterday and insisted joining Liverpool would finally end his injury nightmare. The Pounds 20million Italy midfielder has been sidelined with knee, thigh and ankle injuries in each of the last three seasons. And, while skipper Steven Gerrard may struggle to make Sunday's opener at Tottenham, Aquilani (below) may have to wait until October for his Liverpool debut.

He said: 'I realise now that the way things were sometimes done in Italy didn't do me any favours. For example, this latest problem with my ankle was initially overlooked by people at the club. They thought it was a minor problem and told me to carry on playing and subsequently it needed surgery.
