A MAJOR dispute between the England players and their employers moved a step closer last night when talks aimed at solving problems between the ECB and their Indian counterparts broke down in Mumbai.

The England players are refusing to sign their central contracts until they know whether they will be allowed to play in next year's Indian Premier League but Giles Clarke and David Collier, the ECB chairman and chief executive, flew home last night no nearer to providing an answer.
