Summary
SEBASTIEN Bassong's Newcastle departure appeared to move closer yesterday when he was fined two weeks' wages for refusing to travel to play in a friendly at Dundee United.
It is understood Bassong, 23, wants to join Harry Redknapp at Tottenham - rather than Manchester City - although his agent, Chris Hentoray, is planning talks with both clubs, along with Aston Villa and Everton. Newcastle fined the defender around Pounds 12,000, small change compared to the salaries of some of his team-mates. A Newcastle source said: 'As far as the club is concerned, he is under contract with us. If he fails to turn up for a game, then the necessary action must be taken.'See the full content of this document
