ON THE first day of the Dail break, the Taoiseach appears before the Mahon Tribunal. He accuses the tribunal of trying to stitch him up and refuses to answer questions that he says are not any of your damn business. Mr Ahern admits not having a bank account for between 1987 and 1993. Fine Gael says the amount he received in gifts in the 1990s was equal to EUR 300,000 in todays money.
FOLLOWING ANOTHER day of grilling at the tribunal, it emerges that the Revenue Commissioners are to launch an investigation into lodgments to the Taoiseachs accounts during 1994. Tribunal asks Mr Ahern if the so-called dig-outs ever took place.
