THE Government has come up with yet another trendy, silly proposal to keep alive the flickering interest of the 11- to 14- year-olds who are unlucky enough to be attending British schools at the present time.

Its Qualifications and Curriculum Authority says we must have a new curriculum for a 'changing world' which gives pupils 'social and cultural flexibility' as well as a 'feeling for justice and fairness'. Schools are to encourage 'relevant' languages such as Mandarin and Urdu, and dwell on topics such as global warming and slavery.
