TO SEIZE 15 British sailors and Marines, to imprison them in an unknown place, and to accuse them of doing something they did not do was bad enough.

Now Iran has sunk to the level of barbaric terrorists by showing the British captives on Iranian television, and getting one of them, Leading Seaman Faye Turney, to spout things she cannot believe about how 'hospitable' and 'thoughtful' her Iranian captors have been. Her statement that she and her 14 male colleagues had 'obviously trespassed' into Iranian waters must have been obtained under duress.

Even if the British Government was wrong in asserting that our sailors were 1.7 nautical miles inside Iraqi waters, and the Iranians were right, this would offer them no defence. This is uncivilised behaviour that amply confirms the description of Iran as part of an 'axis of evil'. By its actions, Iran condemns itself.
