FINE, take comfort where you can find it. If you are looking for comfort in a world where America is going flat, China is taking over, the euro is going up, and the Irish industrial cost base is going wild, then, yes, you can still find some comfort. You can find it among those who tell you that the only threat to our economy is that some economists are forecasting trouble, and that any threat to our prosperity would go away if only those people would shut up.
As I say, take comfort in that if you want to. Or take comfort in thumbsucking, or hot whiskey, or indeed in just going to bed and pulling the blankets up over your head. Any of that would be as reasonable as finding comfort in blaming our coming troubles on those few economists who dare to be scary and talk about oil prices and the credit crunch and the property bubble.
