SEPP BLATTER, the FIFA president, was forced to scrap plans for a flamboyant World Cup opening party yesterday because the event could harm the pitch for the World Cup Final.
He had planned a World Cup Gala featuring musicians such as the Black Eyed Peas, Peter Gabriel and soprano Jessye Norman at Berlin's renovated Olympic Stadium on June 7.
