FOR years it was deemed a little unfashionable and out of the way, but these days the Borders, from Peebles in the west to Berwick in the east, is a property hotspot. A pincer movement of buyers moving out of expensive Edinburgh to the north or selling up in the south to enjoy the good life has made the price of property shoot up.

The counties of Roxburghshire, Selkirkshire, Peeblesshire and Berwickshire form a vast area, brushing the southern outskirts of Edinburgh, going as far west as Broughton, then right across to the coast and as far south as Newcastleton.
