GORDON Brown yesterday supported Jack Straw's call for a national debate about cultural identities.

The Chancellor said: 'I would emphasise particularly what we do to integrate people into our country, including language, history and the curriculum.' He threw his weight behind Mr Straw's warning that overt demonstrations of Islamic identity could be a barrier to integration.
