THOSE with a squeamish disposition should look away, because this season our homes will be alive with bugs and creepy-crawlies. No, hopefully not real-life ones, but soft furnishings, wallpaper and accessories will all be adorned with images inspired by the insect world. 'Interiors with a botanical twist have been popular for a couple of seasons, but the hot new trend is entomological,' says Eamonn Forde, managing director of blind specialists Eclectics. 'This season our homes will be buzzing with fabrics and furnishings portraying insects.' Indeed, it is all about bringing the outside in. We've shared our homes with all manner of flora and fauna for some time, says Forde, and this is simply an extension of the trend.

Textile designer Charlotte Rose has long been a fan of our fluttery friends, with digitally printed moths, beetles and leaf bugs trailblazing across her cushions, canvases and wallpapers. 'I take inspiration from things that I find beautiful or quirky, but mainly from what nature has to offer,' she says. 'My designs are based on how insects adapt to take on the form of their surroundings in order to survive.' It's a perfect look for nature lovers. Take Vivienne Westwood's new Insects wallpaper for Cole & Son, which mixes mini moths, frogs and caterpillars in a jumble of vines and foliage. Cutting-edge design team Timorous Beasties has an entire section of wallpapers featuring lifelike bees on pop-art pink and chalky grey backgrounds or swarms of monochrome flying bugs.
