DAMP squib wasn't quite the right phrase to describe it. There was plenty of damp all right - great howls of it blowing in from the North Sea towards the most exposed, vulnerable communities of England's east coast, pushing the water perilously close to bursting point.

And yet, against all predictions, not much of it troubled the good folk of redalert Norfolk yesterday in what was supposed to be the biggest flood crisis for half a century.
