THE noticeboard on the pavement in front of 36 Clapham High Street was handwritten and explicit: 'Myanmar (Burma) Cyclone Appeal Donations Inside.' The passing public had only just begun to respond -- stimulated by the television pictures which showed how great the suffering was.

But the Irrawaddy Delta is only one of the disaster areas to which this modest Save The Children charity shop, on an unprepossessing London road, is sending help -- provided by the generous impulses of local people.
