Will Chastity Catch On Here? ; Millions of Young Americans Have Joined the Growing Abstinence Movement. Now It's About to Be Launched in Britain by a Group of Concerned Mothers. Is This the Answer at Last to Our Shameful Record On Teenage Pregnancy?

Mrs Jacobs, a 42-year-old mother of three who lives in a village outside Guildford, hopes that thousands of British teenagers will follow the American example.

'Someone told me the definition of insane is doing the same thing over and over again and hoping that next time the result is going to change,' she says. 'Well, that's what's been happening here.

'We bombard teenagers with sexual imagery and throw contraception at them in the hope that sexually transmitted infections [STIs] and pregnancy will go down, but it hasn't happened.

'The Silver Ring Thing is not about teaching how to lessen the chances - it's about prevention.' Mrs Jacobs, who has a daughter aged 18 and sons aged 16 and 14, adds: 'Teenagers today are under so much pressure to have sex.
