CHERIE Blair revealed what wasn't in the Downing Street diary yesterday and sent political parties rushing to get ready for a May election.

Mrs Blair, in Gloucestershire to promote her book The Goldfish Bowl, let slip that there were no plans for Number 10's regular Tuesday night charity receptions after May. As the 300- strong audience at the Cheltenham Literature Festival exchanged knowing laughs, chairman Christopher Cooke said: 'You heard it first here.' It is one of Westminster's worst-kept secrets that Tony Blair has pencilled in May 5 for the General Election. But his wife tried to cover her tracks by joking: 'Perhaps it's March 2005!' Mrs Blair dropped the election hint after being asked about the Tuesday receptions for charities at Downing Street. She said: 'I host it and we talk about the charity and have drinks and people have a look around. We have a wellthoughtout system for doing it and we are fully booked until May 2005.'
