ENGLAND's deposed fly-half Danny Cipriani has narrowly avoided signing a high-profile commercial contract that would only have increased the perception he's created of being more concerned with off-field appearances than rugby.

Cipriani, dropped from the England Six Nations squad after a training camp in Portugal, has been in lengthy talks to endorse Brylcreem. He would have followed in the footsteps of sporting icons such as cricket legend Denis Compton and David Beckham, who is likely to collect his 108th England cap against Spain on Wednesday to equal Bobby Moore's record.
