Don't see everything - because less is more in Florence, says Edward Pearce FLORENCE has taken a few knocks recently. One newspaper headline had the gall to proclaim: 'Florence is so over.' Forget it. Sure, there are criticisms to make, but stand on the medieval Ponte Vecchio, look down the defile of river, bridges and the two great runs of Renaissance buildings fronting the quays, and you realise that Florence will never be over.
Some more obscure corners may be a bit dusty and underloved, but what hits you is the ordinary street: the perspectives of handsome, perfectly proportioned houses.
