THE Brown book launch on Monday evening at the Serpentine Gallery, Hyde Park, will be the event de la semaine. My dears, it could prove gushier than an Icelandic geyser. More fakes than a Hong Kong watch shop.

Just one danger. Are guests clear about which Brown is throwing the event? Do they realise that it is Tina Brown, the twinkly-eyed transatlantic celebrity stalker who has now turned her talons on poor Princess Diana? Or, amid all the excitements of these fluctuating times, might they erroneously think that the writer being feted is Gordon Brown MP, philosopher, professional crosspatch and author of Courage: Eight Portraits? The two should not be confused. They may share a surname but they are not similar.
