IN CHOOSING to leave Manchester United in January, 2002 -- after 121 goals and eight major trophies -- Andrew Cole made, by his own admission, the biggest mistake of his career. Almost eight years on he finds it difficult to go back.

'I saw Sir Alex Ferguson at a golf day and he told me I could come down any time and do some coaching,' Cole told Sportsmail yesterday. 'I keep telling myself I will one day, and I will. But so far something has stopped me. It's nothing to do with the way I left. That was my fault. I asked to leave when I didn't have to. A big, big mistake.
