ONE of the donors who gave [pounds]2,500 to Bertie Ahern has revealed to the Mahon Tribunal he always made it clear he intended the money to be a gift and not a loan as the former taoiseach has claimed.

Michael Collins said the initial idea for a loan was raised during a meeting with his friend Des Richardson at the Berkley Court Hotel. It was mentioned that Mr Ahern was having a hard time financially.
