BRITONS are spurning credit card lending as they wrestle with a record debt load, figures revealed yesterday.

Spending on plastic rose only Pounds 43m, the smallest increase since October 1994, the Bank of England said. By contrast, secured lending remains buoyant, with mortgage approvals soaring to their highest level in five months.
