Former skipper Benkenstein (105) put on 193 for the fourth wicket with current captain Will Smith (87) -- a club record against Notts - - to take leaders Durham to 257 for five after Andre Adams had struck to remove Mark Stoneman and Gordon Muchall. Ryan Sidebottom, hoping to force himself back into the England frame, claimed the opening wicket by removing Michael Di Venuto. But Mark Ealham was the pick of the bowlers as he dismissed Benkenstein and Smith with two late wickets. Sussex recovered from a poor start at Arundel to reach 330 for seven against Hampshire. James Tomlinson dismissed Mike Yardy and Ed Joyce but Murray Goodwin (65), Chris Nash (57) and Carl Hopkinson (49) repaired the damage.
