Summary
THE PRIMARY, 7pm, BBC2 PICK OF THE DAY WORKING in one of the country's most racially diverse areas, head Chris Smith (pictured with his pupils) and the staff of Welford Primary in Handsworth, Birmingham, have spent years striving to overcome tensions between the numerous ethnic communities in the neighbourhood. Despite having pupils from 17 different ethnic backgrounds, Welford is a thriving environment in which all the children (only two of them white and British) seem to muddle along very happily, appreciating and understanding each other's similarities and differences even on matters of faith and religion. At least, they do for now what happens when they're teenagers soaking up outside influences is another matter. Filmed over the autumn term, this delightful film follows some of the pupils, offering a lesson in how it should be done in an ideal world, that is. Shown as part of the BBC's White season.
