Summary
FILM: BOGUS, 1.20pm, Ch4 HALEY JOEL OSMENT'S first leading role was in this quaint little coming-of-age comedy in which he copes with his unhappy life by teaming up with a blustering imaginary friend called Bogus, played by Gerard Depardieu. His reluctant guardian, Whoopi Goldberg, gradually learns to overcome her aversion to small people, while Osment learns to do without his Bogus pal.
NATURAL WORLD, 7pm, BBC2 A NEW series of Natural World kicks off with this astonishing portrait of biologist Lynn Rogers, who has spent 40 PICK OF THE DAY years bonding with wild black bears in the forests of northern Minnesota. Rogers uses food to win the bears' trust, a controversial method regarded as highly dangerous. But Rogers (who admits that, at first, he was terrified) is adamant that he is safe -- and his formidable furry friends certainly appear incredibly docile in his company, even allowing him to sit with their cubs, and fit radio collars without using tranquillisers. This film follows Rogers over the course of a year, as he walks through the North Woods with June, 'the most remarkable bear I've ever known', and her three yearling cubs. June's sister has just had her own cubs (prepare for the cute-ometer to go off the scale), but, though she lets him up close to see them, she makes it clear that she's not happy about the camera. 'She's not a mean bear, she's just a nervous bear,' explains Rogers. 'She'll calm down.' Let's hope he's right... MIDSOMER MURDERS, 8pm, ITV1 (not Scotland) THIS new episode kicks off with a murder scene that's inventively bizarre even by Midsomer standards. At a model village (a local attraction we've never seen before), a man is found amid the little people and tiny houses, tied down like Gulliver, and very dead. 'One thing's for sure,' observes the sagacious Jones, 'he didn't kill himself.' Another wildly improbable tale unfolds, with many a familiar face in the cast.See the full content of this document
