FIREFIGHTERS warned lives would be lost if plans to cut the number of control rooms from eight to only one for all 999 calls in Scotland go ahead.

A consultants' report commissioned by the Scottish Executive said the number of control rooms could be 'rationalised' from the present total to two or three, but concluded the workload could be handled 'comfortably' by just one.
