Former Derby County manager Davies meets the FAI headhunters Don Givens, Don Howe and Ray Houghton today in an 11th-hour effort to snatch the job from under Venables nose. Davies, who has lined up former Irish international David Kelly to be his assistant manager, is the final piece in the drawn-out interview jigsaw after Sam Allardyce failed to follow up on an initial expression of interest.
