A SERIES of graphic and disturbing photographs taken by five British soldiers form the centrepiece of the evidence at the German court martial.

While some were 'innocent happy snaps', he said, others provided illustration of physical and sexual abuse.

Lieutenant Colonel Nicholas Mercer added: 'Coercion, torture, collective punishment and the taking of hostages are forbidden.' This is what the prosecution said about the often graphic and disturbing images which were shown to the court.
