Summary

DEPARTING Tory leader Michael Howard's farewell dinner at the Banqueting House, in Whitehall, was attended by more than 600 guests, including Colin Montgomerie's ex-wife, Eimear Montgomerie, with couturier Bruce Oldfield. But no sign of his old pal Jeffrey Archer who, having served time in prison for perverting the course of justice, wants to rejoin the party. 'We don't want Archer and neither does David Cameron,' said one of the organisers. The message: Cameron's already in charge. Isn't political commentator Peter Oborne right when he says that allowing Archer to resume taking the party whip in the Lords would show 'guts and humanity'?

THE pharmaceutical company Bayer Health Care has appointed model Jerry Hall (pictured) as a global ambassador for its 'erectile dysfunction' campaign.
