Summary
AS revealed by yesterday's Irish Daily Mail Cost of Living Index, the price of food is soaring. The cost of general groceries has increased by five per cent in the past month, bread is up 12 per cent and the humble potato up nine per cent. So how to entertain in such an economic climate? Well, it's not impossible. My challenge is to feed six people three courses for EUR 25 - three courses that constitute a dinner party as distinct from family supper.
Where to start? Well, some of the best food in the world is the food of the poor. The joy of good food is often not the cordon bleu stuff that gastronomes rave about, all foie gras and truffles.
