THE doctor at the hospital broke the news as politely as he could.

'I'm sorry,' he said, 'In five months' time your father may still be physically able, but mentally, I'm afraid he won't have a clue what is going on.' In the space of those life-changing five minutes I had not only learnt that Dad had Alzheimer's but now Dr Hughes was quietly shattering my great hope that my father would be able to attend my wedding.
