AS always with Tony Blair, he sounded so reasonable and plausible yesterday when answering criticism of Britain's involvement in Iraq.

In the wake of his decision to begin withdrawing troops, here was the chance to explain how things had gone wrong as well as right. And even apologise for mistakes. It was a lost opportunity.
