THE promised TV 'revelations' about Princess Margaret's love life sound old hat. A lifetime ago, Oxford wit Sir Maurice Bowra wrote: 'Green with lust and sick with shyness/Let me lick your lacquered toes/Gosh, oh gosh Your Royal Highness . . . ' Margaret is thought to have been the unnamed love object about whom John Betjeman (later our poet laureate) wrote: 'The one thing I would really like/To be the saddle of your bike.' Poor Margaret. Small wonder Nigel Dempster's fine biography of her is subtitled A Life Unfulfilled.
