HERE'S something you won't have read in the obituaries of the late Leona Helmsley, the terrifying widow of New York hotelier Harry Helmsley, who has died aged 87.

Known as 'the Queen of Mean', Helmsley was so unpopular with staff that her parties were fraught with tension. On one occasion she gave a large dinner at her Florida mansion. After the soup was served, the second course failed to appear. When Helmsley went to investigate she found the kitchen empty, her employees gone and a note stuck to the fridge which read: 'We just want you to know that we peed in the soup before we left.'
