Summary

DORIS Day, the 83-yearold Hollywood singing legend, was due to get a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Oscars. But it was conditional on animal lover Miss Day appearing at the ceremony personally. Two days before the event, one of her 17 dogs was hit by a car and she insisted on remaining with the injured animal. So the award was withdrawn. My Hollywood source says: 'Doris thought it was more important to be with her injured dog than turn up at what she sees as an increasingly tacky event. This did not endear her to the Academy who will not be offering it to her again.'

TOLD he was about to be exposed in the News of the World, accused of regularly spanking a lady in Kings Cross with a slipper, a TV news personality broke the news to his wife and family. When nothing appeared subsequently in the paper, he asked his agent to inquire. We decided he wasnt famous enough, was the explanation. A truly tragic story.
