BROWSING the bestseller shelves in a bookshop the other day, my eye was caught by a tasteful chick-lit cover. I leant in for a closer look and realised this was no romance, but a hardcore account of one woman's bed-hopping.

It's almost impossible to walk into a bookshop now without falling over a vast stack of erotica for women by women -- much of it in the mainstream section. The covers are designed for public transport and belie the contents. They're invariably a pale sugar pink with a cute line drawing of a slim girl's body in tasteful, girlie lingerie -- very Carrie Bradshaw.
