THE euro jumped by more than a cent last night against the U.S. dollar, after the Federal Reserve cut interest rates by another 0.5pc.

It rose to $1.4895 as the dollar softened within minutes of the news. It was the second rate cut in just over a week, as the Fed seeks to head off a U.S. recession and bringing the U.S. base rate down to 3pc.
