FLOOD-hit areas could get 125million in EU aid to help cover the cost of the devastation, it emerged last night. But councils struggling to pay for repairs may have to wait a year for the cash.

The Government, which has already pledged 46million for affected regions such as Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, the Severn Valley and the Thames Valley, is applying to the EU's Solidarity Fund for extra help. The fund was set up to help with natural disasters costing more than 2billion.
