Summary
THE most extraordinary hurling summer of recent years took its most dramatic twist yesterday when Limerick dumped hotly fancied Waterford out of the championship. A five-goal salvo from Richie Bennis team blitzed the Munster champions and ensured an intriguing final pairing with Kilkenny on September 2. Later Bennis insisted his team are not satisfied with their progress yet.
'People say we're [the management team] there for a few years and we might do something within two or three years, but we wanted to do it in the first year', a highly emotional manager said just minutes after watching his team triumph on a 5-11 to 2-15 final score. 'Believe you me we set out at the beginning of the year and we wanted to get to the All-Ireland semi-final, and when we got to the All-Ireland semi-final we got a bit greedy and we wanted to go further. And we're still going to be greedy. I'm involved with teams all my life, I'm 62 years of age, and I've never met a more honest bunch in my life. And you can't ask for any more than that.'See the full content of this document
