Summary
The EU's Customs Committee has reclassified mobility scooters (maximum speed 6.5mph) so they fall in the same category as F1 racing cars (maximum speed 249mph).
No doubt the main motivation for this ludicrous decision is to raise tax revenue: reclassifying mobility scooters from 'carriages for the disabled' to 'motor vehicles for the transport of persons' means all member states will have to charge a 10 per cent duty on scooters imported from outside the EU (and nearly all of them are manufactured in the Far East).See the full content of this document
