MANUFACTURING profits have slumped to their lowest level since the recession of the early 1990s, casting doubt over claims of a UK industrial revival.

According to the Office for National Statistics, metal bashers, tech equipment makers and other manufacturers generated [pounds]15.3bn of net operating profits last year, the least since 1992.
