EMPLOYEE share ownership has fallen to a 16-year low as interest rates have plummeted on save-asyou-earn schemes, according to accountancy group UHY Hacker Young.

The number of UK employees participating in the initiative peaked in 2001-02, when the share options were granted to 1.3m employees. In 200708 the number was 60pc lower, at 520,000.
