THEY may come from a land of endless sunshine and enjoy healthy diets, but the Fijian rugby team had to fortify themselves with fish suppers bought from a rain-drenched motorway cafe after the final part of their marathon journey to Scotland ended in disaster.
The South Sea Islanders, who tackle Scotland on Saturday, flew from Fiji to Seoul to London then missed their connecting flight to Edinburgh on Saturday evening. Rather than wait until Sunday morning to catch another flight, they hired four seven-seated people carriers and a special van for their gear and set off by road. Led by head coach Glen Ella, the former Australian full-back, they left around eight o'clock on Saturday night and, apart from a lengthy stop to order and eat 27 fish suppers once they had crossed the border, the massive Fijians players remained on the road overnight.See the full content of this document
