Summary
STEVE FINNAN is losing his battle to play against Cyprus on September 5. Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni names his squad for the crucial 2010 World Cup qualifying tie tomorrow but the full- back, who missed last night's match against Birmingham City, is extremely unlikely to be fit for Portsmouth's Barclays Premier League game at Arsenal on Saturday. Finnan has not played for Portsmouth since his move from Espanyol because of a hamstring strain.
'Hamstrings are notorious for telling you they are right and then they are not. We are just being cautious. Steve is doing very well but he's not ready yet,' said Paul Hart. Pompey's next game after the match at the Emirates stadium is against Manchester City on Sunday week but Trapattoni would want Finnan to have had at least two outings under his belt before the tie in Nicosia.See the full content of this document
